Common questions

Before you call

How long does it take to install built-in wardrobes?

A standard sliding-door wardrobe in an existing alcove takes about three to five days. Floor-to-ceiling built-ins with custom internals (drawers, hanging, shelving) run one to two weeks. Walk-in wardrobes with full joinery are typically a fortnight, depending on size and finish.

What’s the difference between a joinery carpenter and a cabinetmaker?

A cabinetmaker builds the cabinetry in a workshop and delivers a finished product to install. A joinery carpenter fits, scribes, and finishes that work into your actual home, including everything around it (architraves, trim, doors, walls). We work in both worlds: we’ll build simple joinery on site, or coordinate with your cabinetmaker for more complex work and handle the install and finish.

Can you work alongside our kitchen designer or cabinetmaker?

Yes. Kitchen and laundry renovations almost always have a cabinetmaker doing the cabinets, a plumber doing the rough-in, a tiler doing splashbacks, and an electrician doing lighting. The carpentry that pulls it all together (skirtings, architraves, trim, scribing, cornice work, doors) is what we do. Happy to coordinate directly with your other trades.

Do you do flat-pack assembly or only custom?

Mostly custom, but we’ll fit flat-pack if it’s a quality system and properly scribed to the wall. If you’ve already bought flat-pack wardrobes and just need them installed properly, send us the spec and we’ll quote the install. For built-ins we’d almost always recommend custom over flat-pack, because the savings on flat-pack disappear when you have to scribe it to a wall that isn’t straight.

How much does a custom built-in cost in Canberra?

A simple set of built-in shelves in an alcove starts around three to four thousand. A floor-to-ceiling wardrobe with sliding doors and custom internals runs five to twelve thousand. A walk-in wardrobe full fit-out is typically twelve to twenty thousand. Free site visit, fixed written quote, line items spelled out.

Do you handle the painting and finishing?

We do the prep (sand, fill, prime). For larger jobs we coordinate with a painter we’ve worked with for years, or you can supply your own. For oil and wax finishes on raw timber we do that ourselves. Either way it gets done properly before we’re off the job.

Can you work in an occupied home?

Yes, most of our renovation work is in occupied homes. Dust-sheeted access path, work area sealed off if needed, tools and offcuts packed up each afternoon. We work clean and finish each day so you can use the space overnight where the scope allows.
